Where's the boldness?

I want to believe that God's preparing to do a big, new thing in the world. I want to believe that about the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). I want to believe it, but I can't. Not because I don't have faith in God, but because I'm not sure I have faith in our church.

I don't see anyone acting with boldness. I don't see anyone saying, "Look -- here it comes! And it is frightening and scary and beautiful! And our church will not be the same. And our lives will never be the same because of it!"

Why aren't "emergents" flooding the doors of the DoC?

I'm curious about something . . .

Our society is learning a lot about the core values of the "emergent" generation (or "postmoderns") in America. They (we) seem to appreciate openness, cultural diversity, authenticity, "spirituality," questioning, community and are (generally speaking) socially progressive.

And then there's our denomination: The Vision of the CC (DoC) is highlighted by the values of Community, Spirituality and Justice. And we also tend to value freedom of belief, openness, cultural diversity and socially-progressive causes.

Where did this thing go?!

Hey Nathan -- Thanks for kick-starting this connect service again. Did it go away or did I just lose touch? Regardless, I think this helps. It helps to hear and read and write and connect. Ministry is changing so fast. It helps to have some people to sit with as we look out the windows on the train.

Mexico's nicknames for President Bush

I realize this episode of Letterman aired in 2001, so I'm only a little behind the times.  But I just found this Top Ten List and laughed my keester off.  Thought one or two people might enjoy it...and one or two people might be angered by it. So I share this with a lot of love in my heart for our future ex-President, Dubya (or as we call him in Texas: "All Hat, No Cattle").

Fun with Haiku

I'm seriously not much into poetry (to my high school English teacher's great disappointment I'm sure). [Hope you're not reading this, Barb.] But what better way to express one's deepest feelings of the holiday season than through a stark, 17th-century Japanese art form? [These are a few originals, but please -- add yours to the list!]

christmas is now here / red and green are ugly friends / why pick these colors?

oh santa bring me / and god save us, jesus too / all we do is beg

white snow is pretty / snowmen, angels, snowball fights / don't eat the yellow

everyone singing / carols, humming favorites / but so out of tune

would you answer this personal ad?

I was with some friends this morning and one of them suggested that our work in ministry is like introducing people to a dating relationship with God. (First, get over the "ick" factor, then read on...)

"Busy but grounded stay-at-home parent seeks faithful partner for long-term relationship."

About you: The right person must appreciate a lifestyle of constant change.  Needs to be trusting and adventurous. Must be willing to sacrifice personal comfort and dreams to make me happy. Looking for someone who doesn't mind appearing alone much of the time, though necessary resources will be provided. The right partner is both a confident risk-taker and comfortable expressing their limitations.
